The Alvaston fleet of UFOs

UFO enthusiast, John Ryder kindly sent in the following account of a bizarre sighting in Derby. John told Pat Regan of NWUR that he now does a daily search for related article’s that have been in the news, this is where he stumbled upon A NWUR advert for UFO encounter reports.
This is John’s story:
“I've never told anyone before about this in great detail, so it’s a first report for you. The year was 1998, it was October, unfortunately I can’t remember the exact day, although I think it was late October possibly 22nd/23rd, the time was 12.30am. The location was a suburb called Alvaston in Derby. It was a typical night, I was quite young at the time, (21 years old), and living with my mum in Alvaston. I had gone to bed around 11 o'clock and was reading in bed, my mother had also gone to bed around the same time. I always used to have a cigarette out of the bedroom window before sleeping; I’d turned off the light and went to the window. It was a fairly cloudy night and the orange hue that was always present in the clouds from the heavily populated street lights was there. After around 4 or 5 seconds, moving away from me, over the top of our house, appeared 3 UFO’s. I couldn’t gauge the height of them, they were below the clouds, so I would estimate 1000 ft.”
John continued with his fascinating account:
“They were moving in unison to start with in a row, (horizontal). At first I was unsure what I was looking at, they were clearly moving steadily away from me at around 50-90 mph, at first I thought they could have been small aircraft, (although silent). That was until one of them manoeuvred away from the group and appeared to glide and swoop, (with amazing agility and grace), across to the left of me across the rooftops and out of sight. The other 2 carried steadily onwards, until they were swallowed by the clouds. I was stunned, and very excited, being alone at the time I was already thinking “no one is going to believe this”. After around 20 or 30 seconds, as I was straining to see into the distance and through cloud to see if I could get another look at these things, incredibly another 4 appeared above my head, from over the roof of our house and continued along the same path as the previous 3, as you can imagine I was dumbstruck, 7 UFO’s in fleet arrangement, gliding over my house in the space of 1 minute. By this time I was overcome with excitement and I have to admit, slightly concerned. I sprinted out of my room down the landing and into my mother’s room. I said something like “there are UFO’s in the sky, get up!” Naturally she was half asleep and didn’t really understand what I was talking about, I ran to the front window to see if there were anymore coming towards the house, to my utter amazement, there was. Again 3 this time moving towards me above the house, this time I shouted “get up! There are UFO’s in the sky”, from my tone and volume she obviously knew I was serious and she followed me back into my room. Yet again they appeared above from above the roof top as I was looking up, and glided effortlessly away into the distance, silent. This time my mum was with me and she saw the UFO’s too, by this time I was becoming worried that there was a full scale invasion going on. We watched the UFO’s disappear into the distant clouds, my mother was amazed as I was. I ran out of my room and downstairs into the back garden convinced that more would be coming over, alas there wasn’t, I waited in the back garden for around 10 minutes before going back inside.”
This strange event appeared to change John’s entire outlook on life as he stated to NWUR:
“The next day it was all I could think about, (and for a few weeks after), it was an event in my life I will never forget. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that these were not manmade vehicles. It’s rare that you would get to see one UFO in your lifetime, let alone 10 moving in fleet formation. The event has totally changed my views on life. It is something that will stay with me forever, and I now know from firsthand experience, without any doubt, that we are definitely not alone in the universe. I feel privileged to have witnessed what I saw, and it has broadened my views on almost everything massively. I can no longer look at the world, politics, religion, the human race, evolution, the future of mankind, without taking into account that we are being visited and observed by other civilisations, and could have been for millennia. I realise that in reading this it might sound incredible, indeed when I have told people, (even other family members), they have taken it with a pinch a salt, although they know I am a totally grounded and trustworthy person, information like this is somewhat mind blowing, I have since kept it to myself, until now.”
John’s amazing story may have been witnessed by other people at that time. NWUR would welcome any more feedback from this Derby area of the UK over this event. John added:
“I can confirm that everything I have said is 100% truth, I am a very level headed person. I am a company director, and have my own family, I am now 32 years old and live in Truro, Cornwall. I would be able to draw the vehicles and describe them in full should you want me
Pat Regan on NWUR asked John what the objects looked like - john stated
"The bottom of the craft was glowing orange, although I noticed the shade of orange was exactly the same as the street lights , this led me to think that the ship was actually reflective, (chrome, polished metal etc), and just reflecting the street lights below and not emitting light itself. The craft was very angular as you will see from the picture, no discerning features on the outside at all. Overall you would say that its diamond shaped constructed out of a reflective material."
