Burscough UFOs

Lovely countryside close to locations of local Burscough/Rufford UFO sightings

Lancashire man Brian Sillett sent in the following accounts of two sightings that took place in Burscough, near the Viking town of Ormskirk. Brian explained:

“Both events took place on Higgins Lane, Burscough and almost exactly at the same location which is halfway along that road between its junction with the A59 at one end and the point where it becomes New Lane at the Crabtree Lane junction”

Date of first sighting: 7th November 2007

            Time:  10:10pm

At the point just before where two footpath signs are almost opposite each other and looking right (south) over the old airfield, now an industrial estate, Brian was looking at the mixture of orange and white street and property lights. He noticed one of the orange lights had become higher and stopped to watch. Brian informed Pat Regan of NWUR:

“It gradually got higher, say 30 degrees elevation, and nearer but only slowly. I thought it could be a helicopter but there was no sound. The light then went into a bit of wispy cloud and I could see the diffused orange colour in the cloud. Before the cloud had passed, the light was no longer there. I did not see it again and it didn't shoot off suddenly.”

Was this just another Chinese lantern riding the breeze – or was it something else? This was what Brian thought. “It just disappeared. Possibility - one of those Chinese lanterns. If it was, it was on its own and although there was only a breeze, I would have expected it to move sideways but it just seemed to be coming forward in a straight line towards me and not in the direction of the wind.”

Date of second sighting” 3rd July 2009. Time:  11:55pm.

At almost the same location, and directly ahead (looking east) Brian saw a falling bright white light. He explained that it came down from right to left at 45 degrees to the ground and the head was the size of a 5p piece at arm's length. He stated:

“A shortish narrowing tail followed. It was that big and startling, I automatically stopped and expected to hear a loud bang. My window of vision was compromised by a tall hedge on the left of Higgins Lane behind which it disappeared. It was probably in view for a second but even so, it fell more slowly than shooting stars I have seen.” What did Brian think this could have been? “Possibility space debris re-entering the atmosphere; I haven't yet seen any reports to prove it.”

NWUR was particularly interested in Brian’s accounts as Burscough is only a mile or two up the road from Rufford, the area, where Pat Regan took the twister/UFO picture in 2008.

We also note similarities with the Ainsdale UFO that Pat recorded with his son Kyle, regarding Brian’s second sighting of a white falling object, although the dates vary.  Perhaps the area between Rufford, Burscough and Ainsdale is forming a new triangulation as a UFO hotspot, or are we simply fuelling speculation. Who knows?

NB. NORTH WEST UFO RESEARCH welcome any further reports that may shed further light on Brian's data from this area or others.  Pat Regan is also collecting UFO stories from witnesses for his forthcoming UFO book.
