The Maryport UFO
Mysterious light follows man along the Cumbrian coast
North West UFO Research has today (19th February 2009) received yet another witness statement concerning a Cumbrian UFO.
Time of sighting: approximately, 10 – 11.00 pm on 29th January, 2009
Ian Thompson, had just finished his shift work at Maryport, Cumbria.
Mr Thompson told Pat Regan of NWUR that he saw an orange light, which was on the “other side of a railway tracks.” At first Ian thought the light was possibly from the top on a fishing boat near the shore. However, Ian said that as he made his way out of Flimby, onto faster roads, the light kept pace with him. He was travelling at about 55mph (on a National speed limit road) and the light was going “too fast for a fishing boat,” according to this witness.
Ian stated that as he travelled towards Siddick he lost sight of the strange light that had appeared to keep up with his vehicle between Flimby and Siddick. The road moves away from the shore at this point we are told. When he arrived at Whitehaven Ian stated that he looked again for the object but it was gone.
The witness told Pat Regan that the night was "calm". Such a fact would appear to rule out any potential allegations that this could have been a Chinese lantern. As far as we are aware, such a lantern would not have the capability to pursue a vehicle travelling at 55 mph over a distance of several miles along the coast, unless the conditions had been very windy.
Was this latest Lakeland sighting linked to others that we have reported on in the Cumbrian region?
Several of these sightings seem to be connected to the large body of sea between the Western Lake District, the Isle of Man and the Scottish coastline. It would be interesting to discover if residents in these other areas had noticed anything strange in the skies at this time.
