Meteor strike - or something else?
18th May 2009 update
The News ands Star recently reported (Saturday, 16 May 2009) on strange activity in the Cumbrian region.
Over the past week North West UFO Research (NWUR) has had even more public reports from Coniston and Alston of weird balls of light travelling across the sky. Paul Harrison, HM Coastguard, also informed us that they have just received a call from BBC Radio Cumbria stating that listeners reported strange lights in the North Cumbria area last night Sunday 17th May.
Meteorite Activity is being suggested as a possible origin by some for the unusual sightings.

Some have however questioned that the Carlisle peat fire could have been caused by a meteor due to the low
temperature of such objects. NWUR Founder, Pat Regan, asked ex-MoD expert Nick Pope what he thought about all
the activity in the region.
Nick stated:
"The North West - and Cumbria in particular - seems to be a real UFO hotspot at the moment. Some people are suggesting
that meteors or fireballs might be to blame. I'm particularly intrigued by the suggestion that a meteor strike started a fire
near Carlisle. Whatever the truth of the matter, something interesting is going on".
NWUR ask again - "Has the MoD any feasible idea about what exactly is happening in our UK air space today"?
Please keep the reports coming in
