Dirty Politics in the UK reaches new zenith as protest over the 2-week waste collection charade is banned by Brown’s Government
My name is Pat Regan. My petition for justice in council tax reduction was rejected ‘twice’ by the Labour Government hiding behind remit technicalities
Southport's Pat Regan; author of Dirty Politics - petition for tax reduction over waste trips - rejected by UK Government
Gordon Brown's Government is now censoring freedom of speech against its hated 2-week waste collection policy and the ramifications for UK householders.
The so called Alternate Weekly Collection (AWC) has created much hardship and bad-feeling for beleaguered families across the UK.
I have, along with other concerned individuals, campaigned long and hard against this dictatorial and unhygienic issue for some time. I have also written a unique book called ‘Dirty Politics’, which exposes the waste collection fiasco and the incredible spin behind it extremely well.

Hospital Consultant bills council for travelling expenses
I recently heard a tale of a doctor who was so annoyed about having to take his excess waste to the tip that he sent his council a bill for the costs. This hospital consultant has sent Carlisle City Council a bill for travelling expenses – because he’s fed up of having to deal with his own recycling.
This understandable public protest gave me the idea to create a petition online with the UK Government.

The following data (accessed in April 2009) shows what actually happens next when political bureaucracy faces a situation that makes it look bad.
Hi,
I'm sorry to inform you that your petition has been rejected. Your petition was classed as being in the following categories:
* Outside the remit or powers of the Prime Minister and Government
Further information: Individual local authorities set their own council tax rates - they are not decided by central Government.
If you wish to edit and resubmit your petition, please follow the following link:

You have four weeks in which to do this, after which your petition will appear in the list of rejected petitions.
Your petition reads:
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to:
'Reduce council taxes to compensate householders for the extra fuel-burning trips they are forced to make to tips/recycling centres, due to the Government’s unpopular Alternate Weekly Collection (AWC) waste scheme'
Glaring flaws in the UK Government’s detested and unhygienic Alternate Weekly Collection (AWC) waste scheme are seeing thousands of residents out of pocket. Families are being forced to make extra fuel-burning trips to tips and recycling outlets to dispose of their excess waste that councils cannot/will not handle. We are calling for a fair 'Council Tax Reduction' for the trips to the tip we have to now make.
---------------
I mentioned this Government rejection (censorship no less) to Doretta Cocks, the leading campaigner for reinstatement of weekly collection; she said:
“What a cheek! How can they reject this when they have the power to decide policy? Typical buck-passing."
Suspicious but undaunted I immediately rehashed the petition to read:
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to:
'Petition councils to reduce council taxes to compensate householders for the extra fuel-burning trips they are forced to make to tips/recycling centres, due to the Government’s unpopular Alternate Weekly Collection (AWC) waste scheme'
We are calling on the PM to petition councils for a fair 'Council Tax Reduction' for the trips to the tip we have to now make.
Yet again, my petition was rejected and I received this following response.
Hi,
I'm sorry to inform you that your petition has been rejected again.
Your petition was classed as being in the following categories:

Your petition will now appear in the list of rejected petitions.
One rule for them and another for us
Is not the UK Government herein hiding behind a hypocritical technicality?
They say:
“Outside the remit or powers of the Prime Minister and Government”
They seem only too eager to step into the breach and harshly berate local councils that fail to tow their AWC line or get recycling issues wrong. The proper “remit” is swiftly forgotten then when the boot in on the other foot it seems. Are they not the initial policy maker also as Doretta Cocks rightly suggests?
Evidently the UK Government is now feeling exceptionally sensitive to growing criticism over its greatly-hated AWC scheme and will go to immense lengths to stifle debate or protest. Can politics get any dirtier than when freedom of speech is taken away from the citizens who have fought to protect such precious liberties? Do the expressed “remit” technicalities that they so conveniently now shelter behind to stifle debate and protest, really help the hard-pressed families that struggle with the 2-week waste scheme in any way?
Their unworkable AWC is here and this despotic Government obviously expects YOU to accept it without any question!
Has your council towed the party line yet over the 2-week waste debacle?
Summer is fast approaching and things are set to get much worse with increased rats, mice, flies, maggots and stink.
Trials in Scotland are also being planned for ‘monthly’ collections, which may spread south if deemed to be successful. Can you imagine 4-weeks waste festering in your garden in the warmer months?
You have been warned!
No doubt some conceited government spin doctor will now step in and repeat the same technicalities over official remit expressed in the rejection of this well-meant petition.
Am I just another crank shouting in the dark against established bureaucracy or a concerned campaigner fighting for UK families – YOU decide!
