Report of a UFO Sighting by Pat and Kyle Regan
Wednesday 17th September 20008
I was making a meal in the kitchen of our home in Ainsdale Southport with Kyle my son.
It was hot with the heat from the stove and I stepped out of the back door for a breath of fresh air. The night was quite clear with stars and it was mild.
I was standing on my step looking at all the stars when I noticed one particular white star which seemed very bright. Kyle was behind me in the kitchen and I called to ask him what planet or star this was as he has quite a good knowledge of the heavens.
As Kyle came over to look I was surprised to see the star increase in brightness then suddenly seem to turn out its brilliance, like some one had turned it off. Kyle mentioned moments later that the object then appeared to zoom off towards the north at very high speed. We were both extremely surprised by this and have never seen such a thing before.
To reiterate, the unknown object was stationary, suddenly increased in brilliance grow dim then shot off (according to Kyle) at high velocity.
We are both familiar was aircraft, satellites, meteor showers, balloons and other objects yet we have no idea what this could have been. To me the oddest thing was how it increased so dramatically in brightness then just turned off. Kyle seemed to be more impressed by the speed of the thing.
Unfortunately I had no chance to photograph the object for it was such a brief sighting. It happened at 9.35 pm.
I have been fortunate to witness other inexplicable things in the skies this summer and I wonder if anyone else saw this one.
Following this sighting, on the 1st October I was contacted by a local news reporter who informed me that she had seen the very same type of thing in Tarleton near Preston several years ago. She told me that it was "really odd". I mentioned this to the Ufologist Nick Pope and asked if this could be connected to Warton – a location which has seen much speculation over secret aircraft.
Nick appeared to agree with my assumptions and informed me that the reporter may be referring to the BAe Systems facility at Warton, which has featured previously in speculation concerning the test flying of prototype aircraft and UAVs.
Did anyone else see anything like this in the skies of Lancashire or Merseyside?
