The Silloth UFO
Lake District UFO sightings increase
Location: Wampool Street, Silloth, Cumbria
Time: Tuesday, 7.30 pm, 17th February, 2009
Elaine Bell was walking home down Wampool Street, Silloth. She saw a red/orange ball in the sky which was around the size of a football.
Elaine went on to tell Pat Regan of North West UFO Research that the object was at first quite “still and silent”. However, as she approached it the mysterious entity zigzagged and then shot off at high speed towards Skiddaw Mountain.
Elaine told NWUR:
“The object was quite low in the sky, bright orange, about the size of a football and seemed to be quite silent. It took off at great speed and most definitely was not a plane or helicopter. I saw it quite clearly.”
Elaine went on to ask us:
"To your knowledge, did anyone else report seeing it that same night? As I said, my husband did, but by that time it was further away and appeared much smaller.”
In fact numerous public reports have indeed come into NWUR database from the Cumbrian region and several are similar to this type of sighting.
Pat Regan stated:
“This latest Cumbrian sighting has brought another to my mind but ‘not’ from the Cumbrian region. A couple spotted something extremely similar to this one on the evening of 7th January 2009 in Skelmersdale, Lancs. The startling movements of the UFO described by witnesses seem especially comparable to these from the Silloth sighting. Are we looking at similar phenomena herein at these two diverse locations? “
This was the Skelmersdale report:
